2022 Trend Alert: Separate Wedding Portrait Sessions!

Kelly and Bryan’s had the most beautiful wedding in houston hall! Right in the heart of downtown between soho and the west village, these two love birds had an amazing time celebrating their love story with their closest family and friends.

Working closely with my couples on their timeline is something I always love lending a helping hand with. with over 100 weddings under my belt, I’ve got a great idea of what works and what doesn’t, and I’m always happy to help offer suggestions to make sure my couples have the best version of their special day possible.

After Bryan and Kelly sent me the first version of their timeline, I noticed there wasn’t a good amount OF TIME SET ASIDE FOR PORTRAITS OF THE TWO OF THEM. WE TRIED MOVING SOME THINGS AROUND BUT RAN INTO ROADBLOCKS IN THE SCHEDULE FOR A PROMPT CEREMONY TIME and by the time that was finished, the sun would be setting and no opportunities for portraits of the two of them outside. I was feeling pretty stumped, but then I had a crazy idea…

What if we shot the wedding portraits on a separate day?

I floated the idea by Kelly and bryan and they were immediately all in. I told them we’d still take a few couples’ portraits the day-of, but we’d pick a date the following week, a location to start, and just shoot for an hour or so! After that, I would deliver the final gallery for the wedding, including the portraits that came out from this separate session. This way the finished product looks like one cohesive wedding day!

I’m absolutely loving the results of this for a few reasons:

1) We have so much more breathing room during this portrait session. No worries about getting back to the venue by a certain time.

2) We can shoot anywhere in the city! We’re not tied down to being an arm’s reach away from the venue. Bryan and kelly chose the West village, starting out at cherry lane theatre. It’s one of my favorite spots in the whole city and it never disappoints for photos! the opportunities for customization of look/vibes are endless.

3) flexibility in schedule to adjust in case of bad weather. the weddings must go on, rain or shine. a separate wedding portrait session gives us the flexibility to reschedule if the weather’s not looking great.

Enjoy some of my favorites from brian + kelly’s wedding portrait session- I’ve already had a bunch of 2022 wedding couples take me up on this idea and i hope it catches on!
