Carly + Max | Liberty Warehouse, Brooklyn
The Liberty Warehouse is such a special venue to me, and truthfully my favorite place to shoot in the entire city. Nestled in Red Hook- Liberty Warehouse is a converted factory building with that Brooklyn charm. One of my favorite features at the space is an incredible view of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan. It’s been a professional goal of mine to book clients at this venue since I moved to New York City in 2015, and what elevates it even more is when I get a couple as magical as Max and Carly.
Oh, and fun fact: Liberty Warehouse is where they filmed The Real World: Brooklyn in 2009! I’m the biggest reality TV nerd, so I geek out every time I get to shoot here!
Carly and Max’s first look was so touching, as she started getting emotional the moment she saw him. We then made our way through the venue’s outdoor space and around the block for some additional Red Hook, Brooklyn style wedding portraits. I love looking for bold features like odd-colored bricks, streets with lots of texture, and stairs that can feature Carly’s long train as a statement piece. The rain was very spotty the entire day, so I brought a clear umbrella to incorporate into some of their portraits in case it started drizzling. Always come prepared!
Their wedding was filled with a beautiful balance of celebrating traditions and personal touches from their closest loved ones. The Ketubah Signing was a really touching, sacred part of this Jewish wedding- all led by Carly’s sister. The Chuppah was adorned with beautiful florals and a Tallit passed down from generations. Max and Carly’s vows to each other were especially personal, filled with laughters and tears as they reminisced over their 10 year love story dating back to high school drama club.
The reception was filled with a night of good laughs and conversation over Chinese Food (yum!!) at dinner, the traditional hora dance, and lots of surprises of inside jokes for Carly and Max. The night came to a close as they had toasts and special dances with Carly with her father, and Max with his mother.
These photos are the preview I sent Max and Carly just 24 hours after their wedding day. The joy and love that radiates from them both are unmatched, and it showed in how celebrated they were by all of their family and friends. That energy is so contagious and inspiring to me! The love was mutual, too- Carly was kind enough to write a 5/5 star review on WeddingWire and The Knot after I sent that preview. Here’s that review:
“Classifying Scratch Studios as a “wedding vendor” would be a huge disservice to who Tyler (and his team) are: they will be your relentless advocates and cheerleaders from the moment you exchange emails. Partnering with an artist like Tyler was like hanging out with your best friend; every wedding guest fell in love with his approachable demeanor and every participating vendor sing his praises (even the caterer, DJ, and florist raved without any solicitation! Wild!) His repertoire is as diverse as 2022 gets; from large traditional religious affairs to completely bespoke and personalized engagement sessions, every single moment he captures behind the lens feels framable, Instagram-able, and instantly cherishable for any (and all) kinds of vibes. Whether you’re a bridezilla or a bridechilla, a bridemaid or a “pridesmaid,” a 14 year old guest or a 95 year old grandmother of the groom, you will instantly love the way Tyler effortlessly turns photos into time capsules. The cherry on top? His communication was always so speedy. Questions always textable, pictures always send-able, and he always felt available. (And he even sent us previews within a few days! Other photographers take weeks!!) We simply could not recommend Scratch Studios more fervently. Best wedding decision we made! Truly!”
